"What exactly do you do?"
First and foremost, I am a marketing and technical writer. Collateral material, web copy, print ads, technical documentation, video scripting, press releases, annual reports, speeches, white papers, direct mail, even the occasional obituary. If it involves the printed or spoken word, chances are I've written it. I am also somewhat of a frustrated engineer, fascinated by how products, processes and even organizations work. As a result, I am very comfortable moving between rigorous technical writing and its more emotional marketing counterpart, often infusing the flavors of one with the clarity of the other. Finally, I insist that it all make sense. My clients often accuse me of wanting to know more about their business and markets than they do. If I'm guilty, it's only because I understand all too well that marketing is merely a means to achieving a business end. So I insist on looking at the picture. That means learning enough about your company to develop targeted marketing strategies, defensible brand positioning, and useful S.W.O.T. analysis.
